Heart’s new album is “almost finished” after a decade-long wait

Heart are nearing the completion of their first new album in a decade, with guitarist Nancy Wilson confirming that recording for the highly anticipated release is now complete.

The rock band went on hiatus following the release of their 2016 album Beautiful Broken, with sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson later repairing their relationship and returning to the stage together in 2023.

Speaking to Gold Derby, Nancy reflected on the difficult period between 2016 and 2019, describing it as a time when things became “fubar: fucked up beyond recognition.”

However, she said their return to touring helped rebuild their relationship.

“But then we got back out on the road, and it was like, ‘OK, this is like riding a bicycle,’” Wilson explained. “There was still a lot of tension, but we kept on planning to keep going. It’s taken a while, but right now it couldn’t be better.”

That renewed relationship has also carried over into the studio. According to Nancy, writing and recording with her sister again proved surprisingly natural, with the process involving “no drama” and feeling like “second nature”.

The sisters’ relationship was further strengthened following Ann Wilson’s recent cancer scare, which Nancy said had a profound impact on them both.

“Getting back into that with Ann one-on-one was extremely meaningful and really fulfilling for me,” she said. “It made me extremely happy to make this album.”

Nancy confirmed that work on Heart’s new record is now nearing the finish line, revealing that the album is “almost finished up now” and that “the recording’s all done”.

The forthcoming album will mark Heart’s first studio release since Beautiful Broken, making it a significant return for the band following years of personal and professional upheaval.
