Presenters

Andy grew up in Brentwood, Essex, but no, he’s never met anyone from TOWIE or anyone like them.

After failing to secure a position in his preferred career of “Rock Star” he started working at BT on a three-month temporary contract. 33 years later he found the exit door and left to focus on his core skills of gaming and drinking tea.

He always fancied being a radio presenter so that he could talk to loads of people without the tiresome need actually to be in the same room as them, and he comes to Radio Big Sky via stints at Felixstowe Radio and Suffolk Sound.

Andy is a keen member of Deben Players, where he acts and is sometimes allowed to direct his own pantomimes. He also plays keyboards in two bands, The Uptowns and Comfortably Floyd, and is always happy to receive favourable comments about his versatile organ. At home in Woodbridge, Suffolk, he is tolerated by two cats.

I’m Ash Wilson and I bring the FEEL GOOD
Playing your favourite, upbeat hits through the decades and sharing happy news on a Thursday evening.
I have been on community radio for over 4 years now and have enjoyed every second, singing and dancing in the studio. Making people smile is what I was born to do.
I’m a mum of 3 children aged 14, 11 and 2, a Romanian Rescue dog and a tortoise. Radio is ME time!
People would describe me as bubbly, funny and caring with a hint of naughtiness!
I grew up in Hertfordshire where I was introduced to great music by my dad and always came to Felixstowe with my grandparents at the weekends to stay in their caravan. These were the best times for me as a child.
I’m an Indie / Rock girl at heart and love to listen to live music and dance the night away.
Looking forward to sharing my lovely for all things “feel good” with you very soon

A x

Since inheriting his sister’s records when he was knee-high to a grasshopper in the 70’s, Chris knew broadcasting, music and communications was the life for him, and the more buttons, levers, switches, faders and general gadgets involved the better, with his first “DJ kit” being a Bush Cassette Recorder and a Bontempi Organ, for his 4th Birthday.

Starting with a modest collection of MFP and K-Tel compilations and a few Beatles 45s mostly more battered than your average cod, he’s never looked back. In the early days it was the joy of spending 85p for this week’s hot single from WH Smith, and still having 15p pocket money left for a small scoop of cola cubes.

The 80’s was Chris’s “Golden Age” of music. Chris showcases his perennial penchant for 70’s and 80’s music and it’s modern contemporaries on Solid Gold Sounds, where he is just as happy with forgotten 45’s as their well known air-play and chart counterparts, so expect an eclectic and original mix of both on the programme.

The show has regular features and occasional themed specials, so if you love that wonderful era too (even if you weren’t there..) - there’s a warm welcome for all to enjoy the classics and maybe even a few you missed ! (“Relax” T-Shirt, flairs, platform shoes, space hopper, and rubik's cube all entirely optional !)

Chris has been a Presenter and Audio Engineer with the East Shropshire Talking Newspaper For The Blind, for the last 32 years, and a radio veteran; having started out with involvement in Community Radio in the 90’s - his last station residency being a very happy 11 month stint at Revenge FM.
The show is now available for worldwide syndication.

Chris is married to a published author, and when not busy editing her latest novel, he enjoys landscape photography, and can often be found alongside the dustiest box of vinyl in any remaining record shops, hoping to unearth a hidden gem, or failing that, at the nearest purveyors of unhealthy food !

Dave started in radio on Hospital radio,he then worked on Pirate Radio and local radio, Ipswich Local Radio RSL, in the 1990s He also worked for Mellow Radio 1557 am. and then on a charity radio station Radio Cracker Ipswich. Now he works for a Dutch radio station broadcasting on 1395 & 1098 am He is delighted to be joining Radio Big Sky.

“I started my broadcasting career as one of the first ‘Disc Jockey’ voices on BBC Radio Bristol, on a Saturday morning in September 1970. I spent approx. 4 years at the BBC, presenting different programmes as well as a current affairs producer, I was also invited back on air when they celebrated their 50 years milestone. I decided when my young family came along that perhaps I could have the ‘best of both worlds’ by trying my hand in ‘the business world’, and still work in broadcasting as a freelance.”

David has worked for GWR radio, Classic Gold, WFM, Star Radio and Pulse Radio.

“As most radio presenters did at the time. I started out as a club DJ when the Soul Music genre was very powerful, with a growing following. It is encouraging to know that even after the time that has passed there is still as much interest in this genre as there was in those early days. The idea for the Soul Vaults show was brought about after discussion with many people who were intrigued by the origins of ‘Old Soul’ , the show not only plays the songs but provides the background to the songs and the artists.”

Phil is our accidental presenter. He blundered into radio in 1980 via a series of coincidences starting with being invited to his local Hospital Radio station by a friend who was a volunteer, only for the "friend" to advise him to forget any hope of broadcasting as there was a waiting list and anyway you don't have the voice for it. If only the "friend" had known Phil had NO ambition to broadcast!

After several years keeping well AWAY from anything (and everything) with a microphone attached, Phil eventually took the broadcast plunge when it was pointed out self-operation studios had long since taken over and there was no longer a need for so-called "engineers". No more trying to look busy with those otherwise invisible little backroom tasks!

Since then, duly bitten by the bug that is broadcasting, Phil has - in addition to too many years in Hospital Radio - been involved in various "restricted service" broadcasts and latterly Community Radio with regular weekend and occasional drivetime slots. None of which means he's any good at it, just ... persistant, available and cheap, VERY cheap!

Musically you'll struggle to find a pigeon hole that fits, he is equally at home playing so-called "Gold" hits, something more contemporary or even a bit more "rocky" (yes, even album tracks by Survivor!).

Ever a self-conscious individual, Phil is not one for being seen running a disco or fronting the village fete PA. He is much more at home sitting - as he says - in a cupboard playing music and talking to myself for a few hours. If somebody else happens to be listening, that is the bonus which makes it all worthwhile!

Oh, and what became of the friend all those years ago? ... never did get beyond fronting the Youth Club disco!

from across the decades as well as new and rising tracks.

many East Anglian locations to meet many of the remarkable individuals, who make our region amazing, to learn their personal stories.

Phil's most treasured vinyl is a 'Captain Sensible' (Raymond Burns of the Damned ) signed copy of 'Happy Talk',

Tony was born among the rolling fields of Cheshire and when he finished rolling about he decided he better get a job. He therefore started a career in IT working for Goverment agencies or contractors. (he could tell you where but he’ll have to shoot you).

His interest in music started when he listened to “Sing Something Simple” with his mum and technically he was a wizz with the “Pause” button on the Grundig tape recorder when his sisters wanted the charts recorded without Alan Feeman.

His DJ- ing career started when his best mate and next door neighbour (Bob) invited him along to a gig. His “mate” said he needed to go to the toilet and left Tony at the decks. After 15 mins it dawned on him that it was a test, so he picked the mike up and kept the floor filled for 45 mins. From that moment on, he was bitten by the bug

That led to him and Bob starting a mobile disco covering Cheshire and the surrounding areas. Bob moved on to Night Club management and Tony hung up his headphones until someone approached him to join the local Hospital Radio where he ended up as Station Manager, trainer, fund raiser etc.

After a number of moves around the country, Tony volunteered at a number of hospital stations, RSL’s (restricted Licence stations), Student Radio and community stations. He even managed to get a qualification (Distinction) in Radio Production and Presentation.

Since his retirement, he has dusted off the headphones and he is looking forward to joining you on Sundays at 2:00pm with Sunday Love Songs.
